MAINTENANCE PRACTICES, SUPPORT & SYSTEMS REVIEW

Scope & Approach:

Transfield Worley Solutions was able to offer comprehensive professional and technical services, calling on broad experience across several industries, to assess the client’s maintenance practices and systems.

By applying our combined knowledge of the best practices in maintenance, Transfield Worley Solutions was able to tailor the review criteria and consequent recommendations around the specific needs of the client.

Maintenance processes at all sites were mapped to determine the existing situation and issues. The review encompassed:

  • • planning and scheduling systems and performance
  • • computer-aided maintenance management systems requirements
  • • materials management system performance
  • • HR and payroll systems performance

The recommended options for maintenance management systems were further assessed to determine:

  • • Key Performance Indicators and data sources
  • • a preferred solution from three accepted applications
  • • the final specifications for the clients requirements

This large-scale review required interviews with 55 key staff and evaluation of three software vendor proposals. Transfield Worley Solutions also conducted process-mapping workshops at operational sites, and completed detailed reviews of existing maintenance data and formats.

Outcomes & Benefits:

The benefits to the client included:

  • • valuable appraisals of the effectiveness of the existing maintenance and support processes.
  • • independent and un-biased recommendations for improvements in the maintenance practices and systems
  • • an improved organisational understanding of the maintenance function
  • • consequent and demonstrable improvements in financial performance from the maintenance function

This multi-faceted review program ultimately led to Transfield Worley Solutions being selected to project manage the implementation of the client’s SAP-based maintenance management system.
