SPARES ANALYSIS – COGENERATION PLANT

Scope & Approach:

The Transfield Worley Solutions approach was to:

  • verify the location and condition of the clients equipment and plant against the asset register
  • assess the criticality of the cogeneration plant mechanical equipment
  • apply industry accepted spares assessment methodologies to determine the optimal spares inventory quantities and range
  • determine the life cycle costs of ancillary equipment and non-critical items for evaluation of insurance spare quantities

Outcomes & Benefits:

The spares optimisation review directly benefited the client by:

  • demonstrating that it was more cost-effective, given the operating and support scenarios, to carry parent equipment as spares rather than components or sub-assemblies
  • enabling the client to make informed decisions about spares quantities and range based on the criticality of plant and equipment
  • identifying equipment for which spares should be managed using service agreements with spares suppliers to achieve maintenance budget reductions
  • identifying opportunities for suppliers to hold consignment stocks of critical and non-critical spares to improve equipment down-times
  • reducing the value of the spare inventory held locally by 20%, thereby further reducing the maintenance budget
